Thomas Kratz

(b 1972, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin)

Kratz's works across a variety of media; including painting; sculpture and performance art. His work explores the physical presence of paintings as objects; often using soft colors on materials other than traditional canvas. Also references to the body; and skin as a form of containment are is frequently present; as the last border between the self and the world outside in all its fragility. Similarly; his paintings hover somewhere between the two poles of surface and of object; which has led to recent work on reliefs.
