Through his work Apostalou investigates the tension betweencontrol and unpredictability in the creativeprocess inan effort to identify the lowest possible limits of control.In his drawings he uses chance and randomness to explore the visual qualities of the line. The drawings relate to his sculptural practise where the line; the joint and the intersection play a central role as structural elements of the forms. Borrowing aesthetics from technical drawing perspective techniques; the designs often resemble studies of sculptures but on closer inspection are three-dimensionalimpossibilities. Paradox is a recurring themeof Thomas' artistic practise.Since the drawings are initially dictated by rolling dice; the colours become the nexus of control in the works where the artist's decisionsare reactive to what chance has created.
