Collection: Stephen Jaques
(b 1958, United Kingdom. Lives and works in London)
Jaques' work is a constant cycle of reinvention and discovery; from sacred geometry to natural form. Colour binds together the disparate elements. The process is similar to alchemical transformation - a perpetual unfolding. Sources range from ancient art and symbolism; Arabic design and calligraphy; to contemporary art and architecture. Incorporating decorative and symbolic elements to produce what Laurence Noga describes as “mysterious; super-structures; oscillating between refined flatness and illusionary forms floating in deep space”.
