Collection: Richard Graville

(b 1961, United Kingdom. Lives and works in Brighton)

Graville's artworks diagram the visual codes used by animals to protect themselves. “My painting practice is a learning process; I test my knowledge gained studying animal coloration; and observe how we utilize the same principles;” he says. “I recognize that our vision is shaped by evolution around these codes.” Graville hopes to discover aspects of how his own mind works via his paintings; “to strip everything else away so that I can illuminate what underpins our perception.”
