Collection: Louise Van Der Bijl
(b 1984, Netherlands. Lives and works in Den Haag)
Van der Bijl is an artist who works with paint and collage on paper; canvas and wood. She makes work about her experience of living in the city of Johannesburg; working from photographs and found material; she considers memory; nostalgia and history in relation to space and movement in our everyday lives. “My work touches on my identity as a white woman; wife and mother; living in post-apartheid South Africa and trying to make sense of my existence here and now. I am very interested in ways of seeing and our physical day-to-day interaction with our broader city environment.”
