Brookes makes paintings in response to her relationships; memories and observations. She layers and fuses these sources in a collage-like process toward forming intuitively worked paintings as her primary medium. Through painting; she says she develops a heightened awareness of her body; actions and thoughts; which can sometimes translate into what she terms ”˜unsettling' elements in her work.
