Kamyar Bineshtarigh

Kamyar Bineshtarigh works in a variety of media; most notably painting and video. His conceptual concerns range from language and communication in all its forms; to the movement; migration; and displacement of humankind. Many of Bineshtarigh's paintings feature aspects of Farsi script and calligraphy; broken up into pieces or pared down to a single painterly gesture; through their repetition; these textual elements suggest human figures. Bineshtarigh's video works straddle the borders between cinema; documentary; and video art. He uses poetic cinematic techniques to convey themes of social dislocation; while drawing on his own experience of moving from Iran to South Africa in the depiction of his subjects.
