Collection: Gerda Scheepers

(b 1979, South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town)

Through her tactile and sculptural paintings; Gerda Scheepers contemplates the narrative possibilities of visual works and their ability to convey content and information. Motifs and marks arranged into delicate and minimal designs create a very personal exploration of symbols and signs. Scheepers uses collage and decoupage as visual instruments to disrupt familiar forms. In active pursuit of ambiguity; she remixes content and formal elements of paintings through a cut; copy and paste approach. “The studio functions somehow as a capsule;” she says; “where possibilities and restrictions play themselves out.”
