Collection: Ferial Mohamed
(b 1975, South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town)
Ferial Mohamed explores the intersection between language and visual art; in the context of identity and decoloniality. Her work is intended to entertain and engage; relaying lived experiences from a host of characters and objects connected to the Cape Flats where she grew up. She is interested in narrative as a form of empowerment; as cultural inclusion; making it part of recorded history. My images oscillate between the grotesque and the whimsical; challenging the viewer to probe the subject beyond its surface.
