Collection: Ed Young
(b 1978, South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town)
Ed Young is a conceptual artist working in a range of media; ranging from hyperreal sculpture to scripto-visual painting; murals; video; giraffes; teddy bears and children. He designs works of minimal content in pursuit of perpetual happiness. Since his arrival on the South African art scene; Young has been celebrated for his inability to adapt and has long since overstayed his welcome. Somewhat insincere; recurring interests and themes include hints of disinterest; frequent and unnecessary references to Enya; restless leg syndrome; Lacanian lap dances; unrealistic fantasies of a Sister Act II reboot; and a genuine and fundamental lack of understanding.
