Collection: Connie Burlton
(b 1997, United Kingdom. Lives and works in London)
Burlton's practice is a tactile response to the replacement of material manipulation with simulation in the digital age. The physicality of her work; which has its base in painting but includes printmaking and ceramics; presents an antidote to the ubiquity of the screen in an increasingly intangible world. Working with oil on canvas; Burlton favours chance and spontaneity; accepting and exploiting the qualities of the paint and its ground. Her relatively minimal compositions find their framework from within the rich history of abstract expressionism through a meeting of accident; trace and more deliberate mark making.
