Clark’s work explores coastal environments, focusing specifically on places geared towards tourism; it’s an interest that traces back to his upbringing in Mallorca and Cornwall. His works begin by taking photographs at specific locations, which are then collaged and reconfigured; the resulting images then serve as reference material for paintings.
He says: “I am fascinated by vernacular or ‘local styles’ of architecture, clothing and colours. The palette that I use is often based on saturated and faded colours through which I attempt to capture an energy that is specific to resorts – a condensed or ‘heightened’ version of reality.”
