Alistair Gow

(b 1988United Kingdom. Lives and works in Glasgow)

Alistair Gow works with drawing and installation but with a primary focus on printmaking. "My images come from a fascination with things that present potential: blank spaces, billboards, roads, and pictures hanging on walls are recurring motifs. The practice of printmaking, in particular the process, craft, and community of a workshop, is essential to how I think about and make art." Alistair tends to leave clues as to how the work was made, such as slivers of colour in mis-registration of etching plates or cut marks in a woodblock print – "for me the process needs to be evident." The material quality of print is of personal significance and the surface of the paper is often as important as the scene described.
