For the past couple of years, Sales has been working on a series of installations and artworks that seek to investigate the circumstances surrounding the controversial 1987 South African Aiways, Boeing Helderberg air disaster in which 159 people died. The constructions, based on this incident, made of intricately cut pinned paper and rubber, point to the fragile nature of our existence, temporality and the role of chance in all our lives.
