Tell us about the works Art Gazette has acquired from you

My work with Art Gazette is the playful discovery of a path I'm trying to reveal to myself. A series called Imagine Food. They are pictures of dishes from a French Vintage recipe book. I have cut out the food show only the plates, leaving the imagination to picture the food.

Select one work you admire from the Art Gazette inventory

Maurizio Anzeri’s Heavenly Sounds 03, 2019. I like the depth in this image and the combination of abstract and natural forms. It is something I am always looking for in my own works as well.

What inspires you?

Nature inspires me, especially the mountains and the sea. Trees. Colours of fall. Shadow and light. Stones, different kinds of rock. I am inspired by electronic music. It relaxes me and makes my creativity flow. Fashion and interiors. Some people, movies and art.

View of the exhibition, Rom Mueck, Foundation Cartier Paris

Which exhibition has left a lasting impact on you?

Ron Mueck in Fondation Cartier Paris, 2013. The Mueck exhibition was an unplanned visit. I did not know anything about the artist and was the last person to visit the show before it closed. It was such a happy surprise to see their work.

“Ron Mueck makes contemporary sculptures. His characters are so lifelike that they seem to breathe. Veins, wrinkles, body hair,… no detail is neglected. The result is so perfect that the pieces’ resemblance to “real life” can be quite disturbing,” Fondation Cartier.

If you could work in any other medium, what would you choose?

I would love to be able to paint. I envy people who can paint and draw. My impression is that painting is the ultimate way to express. It must be so satisfying to grab the paint and getting your inner images on canvas or paper. It’s freedom. With collage I feel a dependency on the source material which is also a choice, a safe choice but it brings limitations.

Who would your dream artistic collaboration be with?

Isabel Marant. I love the clothes and I would love to work on a fashion project.

If you could own any artwork in the world, which would it be?

A Bigger Splash, 1967 by David Hockney or Willem de Koonings Rosy-Fingered Dawn at Louse Point, 1963. They both are very light and bring me joy.

A Bigger Splash, David Hockney
No 61. Rust and Blue, Rothko

If you could be transported inside any artwork, which would it be?

A Rothko piece. I would love to be absorbed in a field of colour.
