Richard Graville

(b 1961United Kingdom. Lives and works in Brighton)

Graville’s artworks diagram the visual codes used by animals to protect themselves. “My painting practice is a learning process; I test my knowledge gained studying animal coloration, and observe how we utilize the same principles,” he says. “I recognize that our vision is shaped by evolution around these codes.” Graville hopes to discover aspects of how his own mind works via his paintings, “to strip everything else away so that I can illuminate what underpins our perception.”
