Mabusela subverts gender norms in her art, drawing on stories collected from childhood, and more recent memories. Her prints feature motifs that reference the patterns and shapes of lace and doilies, provoking questions about society’s expectations of women’s roles.
The self-proclaimed ‘monotypebabe’ and ‘zinequeen’, Mabusela is also the founder of the Makoti Bridal Gift Shop, a mobile outlet offering a dynamic range of feminist killjoy weapons, tools and technologies.
