Wentzel focused on working with linocut during her formal fine art training, and then explored various printmaking techniques, including relief and intaglio, under apprenticeship. Her desire to explore new possibilities has since led her to discover new media. Today, she mostly works on large canvases with acrylic paint; her style is graphic and naïve, often mimicking loose lino-cutting techniques.
Wentzel gathers her inspiration from details from the natural and urban environments around her: kitsch prints, cheap imported goods, passing faces or tagging and scribbles on derelict alley walls.
