Ioannis Lassithiotakis

(b 1956Greece. Lives and works in Athens)

Lassithiotakis’ highly abstract compositions rely on indirect, elliptical and unconventional symbols, which require viewers’ attempted interpretation in order to be ‘completed’ from the artist’s point-of-view.

Contrary to the general perception of abstraction as a mode of expresion that sits at a permanent distance from classical representation, his intention is for the works to operate like a portrait, still life or vanitas.
