Artist's statement
(b 1966GB. Lives and works in London)
Bowles explores illusion, intervention and metamorphosis through her painting, object making, film and installation. She reinterprets artworks and artefacts by playfully reimagining their architectural and historical contexts. By rearranging elements and imagery from classical paintings, photographs and architectural interiors, she subverts historical narratives, opening up new avenues of interpretation. “I attempt to render the familiar uncanny, in order to challenge us to re-evaluate what we think we know.”Solo exhibitions
