Artist's statement
(b 1972GB. Lives and works in Consett)
Graham Dolphin frequently explores ideas around self-identification and idolism including an ongoing series of pieces inspired by fans memorial messages to dead rock stars and deceased celebrities. The objects and sites chosen for veneration are often arbitrary – a rock near the place Gram Parson's body was burned, the back door to Freddie Mercury's garden flat. These lines of enquiry have led to colourful, scrawled text works that are neither replicas nor facsimiles of original messages but form an ironic, apposite and, at times, fatalistic commentary on modern times in their own right.Solo exhibitions
