Connie Burlton

(b 1997United Kingdom. Lives and works in London)

Burlton’s practice is a tactile response to the replacement of material manipulation with simulation in the digital age. The physicality of her work, which has its base in painting but includes printmaking and ceramics, presents an antidote to the ubiquity of the screen in an increasingly intangible world.

Working with oil on canvas, Burlton favours chance and spontaneity, accepting and exploiting the qualities of the paint and its ground. Her relatively minimal compositions find their framework from within the rich history of abstract expressionism through a meeting of accident, trace and more deliberate mark making.
