Amy Ayanda Lester

(b 1992South Africa. Lives and works in Cape Town)

Amy Ayanda Lester’s family were removed from their flower farm in Constantia due to the Apartheid Group Areas Act 1995. It is this family history that inspires Lester’s work as she continually returns to notions of home and images of flowers.

She describes her work poetically as “ tender and intimate, longing and belonging, caught like dust in the paint.” Her landscapes are both real and imagined, “a place to come back to,” she says.
